TRON dominated stablecoin settlement in Q3 2026: 73% of volume, $92.7B USDT, $82.7M fees, TVL +27% to $5.7B, plus first US TRX ETF and wider institutional access.

TRON averaged 3.7M daily active users between July and September 2026, up from 3.5M in Q2 2026. For reference, the average daily active users across the benchmarked chains are 1.4M, with only Solana (4.4M) exhibiting higher active users than TRON in Q3 2026.
As of 30 September 2026, approximately 73% of total stablecoin volume was on TRON - the highest share among all chains, with Ethereum second at 15%. The gap underscores TRON's role as a predominantly stablecoin-centric network, distinct from chains where protocol flows dominate.
TRON’s share of the total stablecoin market capitalization increased from 28.7% in June 2026 to 30.2% by the end of September 2026. This gain was assisted by USDT market cap on TRON exceeding $90B for the first time.
The USDT market cap on TRON reached a new all-time high of just over $92.7B in Q3 2026, lifting TRON's dominance of the total USDT market to a 2026 high of 50.6% (mid-September) and ending the quarter at just over 50%. This growth occurred despite a stagnant global market capitalization for USDT, which was effectively flat at about $184B.
TRON’s share of USDT transfer volume with transaction size <$1,000 among chains with native USDT issuance rose from 52% in Q2 2026 to 55% in Q3 2026 - reinforcing TRON as the leading retail-friendly blockchain.
Total fees on TRON reached $82.7M in Q3 2026 - surpassed only by Hyperliquid at $227M - demonstrating the network’s successful conversion of stablecoin dominance into tangible protocol value. This performance highlights TRON's ability to monetize its position as the primary rail for global stablecoin activity, generating significant fee value across the ecosystem.
Crypto payment card volumes grew from $1.44B in Q2 2026 to $2.32B in Q3 2026 (+60.5% QoQ). Tron became the largest chain by card volume in Q3, with a 27.5% share of chain-level volume (about $638M), ahead of Ethereum (24.0%), OP Mainnet (14.9%) and BSC (14.3%).
Institutional flows continued to build, with Tron Inc.’s treasury holdings rising to 716M TRX at the end of September 2026, up from 702M TRX at the end of June.
Beyond corporate treasuries, TRON’s institutional access has broadened through exchange-traded products as aggregate AuM across TRON ETPs rose to roughly $80M by the end of Q3 2026, up from around $29M in Q2, driven almost entirely by the September launch of the Canary Staked TRX ETF (TRXS) - the first US-listed TRON product - which launched with $50M in assets under management. VanEck’s TRON ETN (VTRX), the long-standing European product, held broadly flat near $29M.
TRON's TVL rose to $5.7B at the end of Q3 2026, from $4.5B at the end of Q2 (+26.6% QoQ). Lending and CDP remain the dominant sectors, together accounting for 90% of total TRON TVL (lending: 68%, CDP: 22%). DEX is the main gainer, with its share up from 6% to 9.5% as its TVL roughly doubled to $542M.
JustLend remains the dominant lending protocol in the TRON ecosystem, with $3.9B in TVL, roughly 68% of TRON's total. Q3 2026 saw JustLend's active loans rise to $199M, up from $127M at the end of Q2 2026. During this same period, the price of JST, the protocol's native token, rose 52%.
On October 24, 2025, JustLend DAO launched a long-term deflationary initiative by allocating its net protocol revenue and USDD multi-ecosystem earnings (exceeding a $10M threshold) toward the recurring buyback and permanent burning of JST tokens. The protocol has undertaken JST buybacks worth $94M as of early Q3 2026 (with upcoming buybacks taking the total to $115M).
TRON's share of global spot DEX volume ranged between 0.2% and 0.6%, with occasional spikes just under 1%.
SunSwap, the primary spot DEX on TRON saw slightly lower quarter on quarter volumes - with $5.0B in Q3 2026 - down from $5.8B in Q2 2026. SunX (previously known as Sunperp), the primary perp DEX on TRON, recorded lower trading volumes - from $12B in Q2 to $9.7B in Q3 2026.
Sunswap launched its v4 (SunSwap V4) on 2nd March 2026. It introduces a singleton architecture that concentrates all liquidity pools into one smart contract, which, combined with flash accounting, drastically cuts the energy (gas) needed for complex trades. V4 accounted for ~26% of the total Sunswap volumes by the end of Q3 2026.
SunSwap has an aggressive SUN token buyback and burn program. This program is funded by all revenue generated from SunPump, which is directed towards the repurchase and destruction of SUN tokens to promote a healthy and sustainable ecosystem. The most recent phases of the program include: 9M SUN burn on 25th July 2026.
While TRX gained a modest 7% in Q3, it did so as the least volatile asset in the benchmarked set - daily volatility of 0.9%, roughly a third of Bitcoin's and a fifth of SUI's - never once closing below its quarter-start value. This price stability was underpinned by continued fundamental strengthening, reinforcing TRON's profile as a low-beta, utility-driven network rather than a momentum play.
Spot, Derivatives and Liquidity
TRX’s trading volume on centralized exchanges saw a slight decline compared to Q2 2026 ($29B) as Q3 2026 volumes reached $26B.
In spot markets, TRX is widely available, trading on 70 centralized exchanges. Spot volumes totalled just over $16B in Q3 2026. A select group of exchanges; Binance, MEXC, and HTX, accounted for 28% of activity, underlining their importance to TRX’s liquidity profile.
TRX perpetual futures volumes picked up in Q3 2026, totaling $10.2B (up from $8.3B in Q2 2026). Binance, OKX and Bybit are the leading venues for these trades overall, with Binance being the leading exchange at 57% market share.
Mid-price depth, defined as the total order book volume within ±1% of the mid-price, indicates a market’s ability to absorb larger trades without significant slippage.
In Q3 2026, daily mid-price depth (1%) for TRX-USD and TRX-USDT pairs declined from 5M TRX to 4M TRX.
Q3 2026 reinforced TRON’s transition from a retail settlement layer into a dual-purpose payments-and-DeFi hub. The network converted its stablecoin dominance into protocol revenue - $82.7M in fees, second only to Hyperliquid - while JST and SUN buyback-and-burn programs supported the continued reduction in token supply through their respective deflationary mechanisms. TRX gained a modest 7% over the quarter while remaining the least volatile asset in the benchmarked set, reinforcing its profile as a low-beta, utility-driven network rather than a momentum play.
The quarter also broadened TRON’s institutional and cross-chain surface: regulated U.S. access via Bitnomial and a Canary Staked TRX ETF on the Cboe BZX Exchange , expanded institutional custody and trading through Anchorage and Paxos, inclusion in S&P Pantera’s first crypto index, and deeper interoperability via Eco, Symbiosis, STON.fi and Stargate. TRON’s TVL rose 26.6% QoQ to $5.7B, led by lending and CDP, as the network continued to pair its leading retail payment rail with growing DeFi and institutional activity.
